Former NBA All-Star Gordon Hayward Announces Retirement

Hayward played 14 seasons in the NBA, including stints with the Utah Jazz, Boston Celtics, and Charlotte Hornets.

He was a two-time NBA All-Star and helped the Jazz reach the Western Conference Finals in 2017.

Hayward, 34, announced his retirement on social media Thursday, thanking his parents, family, agent Mark Bartelstein, and coaches.

"I want to start by thanking my parents for their love and support throughout my life," Hayward wrote. "I wouldn't be where I am today without you. Thank you to my wife and kids for always being there for me, through the good times and the bad. I love you more than anything in the world."

"I also want to thank my agent, Mark Bartelstein, for his guidance and support throughout my career. He has been a great mentor and friend."

"And finally, I want to thank all of my coaches, teammates, and fans. I have been so fortunate to play this game for a living, and I have made so many great memories along the way. Thank you for all of your support."

Hayward was a standout at Butler University, where he led the Bulldogs to the NCAA championship game in 2010. He was drafted by the Utah Jazz with the ninth overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft.

Hayward played seven seasons with the Jazz before signing with the Boston Celtics in 2017. He spent three seasons with the Celtics before being traded to the Charlotte Hornets in 2020.

Hayward signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2022, but he only played 26 games before announcing his retirement.

Hayward finished his career with averages of 15.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.

Hayward's retirement is a reminder that all good things must come to an end. He was a great player and a great teammate, and he will be missed by the NBA community.
