Powerful Tremor Follows Series of Earthquakes in Region

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 struck the South Pacific Ocean near Fiji on Saturday, May 30, 2022, at 19:08 UTC (19:08 May 30, 2022 UTC). According to the latest reports, the epicenter was located approximately 42 miles west of the Fiji region.

This latest earthquake follows a series of seismic events that have occurred in or around Fiji over the past year. Since 2021, the region has experienced 254 earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 3.0 to 7.0. The most significant of these was a magnitude 7.0 earthquake that struck on February 20, 2021, causing widespread damage and infrastructure disruption.
